Instructions for connecting with the Second Life viewer.
- Download and install the viewer
- You can use the Second Life viewer (download from www.secondlife.com) or the RealXtend client viewer (download from www.realxtend.com)
- If you are in the Information Science dept at Otago, you can get a copy of the viewer from the software archive
- Make a copy of the Second Life shortcut created on your desktop
- Right click the new shortcut and select properties
- Select the General tab and rename the shortcut to 'ONGENS VW Grid' (change the text in the box at the top)
- Select the Shortcut tab and change the Target by adding the highlighted text below:
- "C:\Program Files\SecondLife\SecondLife.exe" -set SystemLanguage en-us -loginuri http://ongensVW.otago.ac.nz:8002/ -loginpage http://ongensVW.otago.ac.nz/opensim/loginScreen.php
- Click OK
- Double click the new shortcut and the Second Life viewer should start.
- Enter your ONGENS VW Grid account First and Last names for your avatar and your account password.
- Click Connect and you should be transported into the virtual world.
- Explore and have fun!
